Description:
Ramsay, bacon curer, is the oldest business in the town, founded in 1857.
Further Info:
At this point, if you look over the the back of the Wee Moss play park, this building was the Police Houses with the now closed Police Station at the end. St Athanasius R.C. chapel can also be seen. It was built in 1857 and St Andrew’s Parish Church was built in 1799 to replace the then ruinous Forest Kirk which stood in the old kirkyard opposite the Hub. The old name of Forest Kirk has recently been adopted by the local churches because of the recent re-organisation by the Church of Scotland. Our thanks to Carluke Parish Historical Society for providing this information.
